Best New-To-Me Authors I Read In 2014

I'm never going to be a person who reads bestselling authors. Be forewarned, then, that you probably haven't heard a lot about many of my new-to-me authors.

But that doesn't mean you shouldn't seek them out. Especially if you are like me and love to read fabulous books that no one else has heard of.

Here are my Top Ten New-to-Me Authors:

Laurie Colwin

Jane Gardam

Betsy Byars

J. L. Carr

Nicola Hodgkinson

Laurie Graham

Alan Booth

Lawrence Osborne

Tove Jansson

Jill Paton Walsh

How about you? Who did you discover this year? Any suggestions for me?

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. This feature was created because we are particularly fond of lists at The Broke and the Bookish. We'd love to share our lists with other bookish folks and would LOVE to see your top ten lists!

Each week we will post a new Top Ten list that one of our bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join. All we ask is that you link back to The Broke and the Bookish on your own Top Ten Tuesday post AND add your name to the Linky widget so that everyone can check out other bloggers lists! If you don't have a blog, just post your answers as a comment. Have fun with it! It's a fun way to get to know your fellow bloggers.

  6. I've only heard of Tove Jansson before, so there's a lot of authors I'm going to have to check out. Thanks for the tips, and for stopping by my TTT earlier. :)

  8. I read a Laurie Colwin book a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. The other authors are new to me but I love the look of Life with the Lid Off. Great list!

  10. I not only haven't read any of the books you highlighted, I haven't heard of the authors, either. This TTT is making me feel like my focus on YA lit is really squelching my knowledge of adult books out there. Egads. Thanks for dropping by my blog.

  11. Another Jane Gardam discoverer here - read all three of the Old Filth trilogy this year. Will have to come back and take note of some of those authors you mentioned as I had already decided I would try out some 'new to me' authors' next year.
